How Much Do Headshots Cost in Los Angeles?

Actor Headshots can be pretty pricey for an actor starting out in LA.

For your first set of Acting Headshots you can expect to spend anywhere between $300-$600 dollars in Los Angeles. This is not including hair and makeup or retouches which are both usually optional, but usually recommended. 

Okay obviously, you’re going to want to spend the smallest amount, so what’s really the difference between a $300 dollar Headshot Photography Session vs. a $600 dollar one?

Once you know what a standard, usable actor headshot in LA is supposed to look like, you can pretty much find a decent Los Angeles Headshot Photographer that can charge any range of price and still deliver you images that you can use.

That means whether it’s $300 or $600, the shots are going to do just about the same. 

So what is it that you’re paying for? 

Headshot Costs

Well, for one thing someone that is charging $600 for a session is likely a photographer that’s been in the game for a while, and they have a consistent clientele, which means they know what they’re doing and you can almost certainly rely on them to get the shots you need without a problem. 

That’s what makes their prices a bit higher, it just means they are in demand more. 

The negative side of this, is that these rates are on the higher side, and not everyone can afford that. 

And the real question is SHOULD they even need to pay that?

Often times LA Headshot Photographers at that price point have a full schedule. Very often, they take a while to get back to you when you reach out to them. They aren’t really able to be personable with you before, during, or after the photo session, and don’t help you find the right outfits or guide you through the process. They can sometimes even take a long time to give you back the final product, or even have very aggressive or highly inflated egos that intimidate a lot of newer actors. 

Average Headshot Prices in Los Angeles

Someone that is charging $300 is about average in LA when you’re talking about 2 looks. 

At this rate it can be a hit or miss. You really have to lean on your understanding of what a good standard high quality headshot is, because if you find a photographer that can accomplish that for you, and they are at affordable price point, they respond to you swiftly, they have an open schedule, and more importantly, you like their vibe and energy, then that’s what I would consider a good deal on headshots in LA. 

Cheap Headshots

Just be careful not to be cheap because cheap pictures are often cheap pictures. They look it and everyone in the industry will notice it when looking at your pictures. Yes, that means unless your friend is one of the top headshot photographers in Los Angeles, don’t go to them just because they are free!
