Today, we're going to be building a modeling portfolio with Yoeil William. Yoeil is a 6’2” Sudanese-American model. One of his stunning features that give them a unique look is his dark skin tone.
In today's shoot, we're going to make sure to highlight his skin tone.
Modeling Digitals
The first thing you need is a model is a set of updated modeling digitals. Modeling Digitals give clients a raw glimpse of what you look like today. Throughout your career as a model, expect to get updated model digitals at least once every six months, especially if you change your appearance a lot.
So we knocked out his model digitals before we began to shoot. The inspiration for today's shoot was a lot of beige and white colors to match my apartment's aesthetic and because it pops on your skin tone.
Developing A Modeling Portfolio
When you're developing a modeling portfolio, the key takeaways are to get strong images that show you in different movements, show your different angles, show different facial expressions and show how you can bring simple clothing to life.
Each of your shots should be dynamic, close up head shots, three quarter shots and full body.
Modeling Portfolio Benefits
A good modeling portfolio can make models thousands and thousands of dollars. And remember your job as a model is to sell the clothing or product that's being styled on you.
So it's really not about you and how cute you look or how glamorous you feel, but it's about how the clothes look on you and if the designer or creative director loves how everything is coming together. From a good modeling test shoot, you should be able to walk away with at least 20 usable images to make up a modeling portfolio.
These images will determine how much work you get and how fast you get work as a model when you're in the fashion industry. A good modeling portfolio will help you get bookings with clothing brands, shoot e commerce work, doing editorials for magazines, shooting for look books, filming commercials and even sometimes walking in fashion shows and more.
