How To Take Swimsuit Model Digitals

See the video above for examples on how I’ve shot swimsuit digitals with a commercial/print model in LA.

Swimsuit Model Digitals

Model Digitals are supposed to show a client what your body looks like and what type of work your look is fitted for.

Having a swimsuit look can come in handy if you expect to be doing shoots for swimwear brands, bodysuit brands, even dress brands OR if you're gonna be doing any modeling for music videos, then you're going to need some strong swimsuit digitals.

Wearing a black two-piece swimsuit is the standard look for a swimsuit digital. Both fashion models and commercial models can use a swimsuit. I would encourage aspiring commercial models to smile and laugh in their swimsuit digitals. Fashion models can show a range of serious and smiles.

Swimsuit model digitals can be taken with or without heels.

What you want to avoid

  1. Avoid trendy bathing suits- in most cases the thinner the string around the bottom part of the swimsuit, the less flattering i’ve seen it be on models. Stick to a standard swimsuit as best as possible like the image above if you can. The best body types that I’ve seen can pull of the stringed bikini bottoms are really thin girls, so just be aware.

  2. Avoid any color- the objective of the digital is to show your body and how it wears a swimsuit… it’s not an actual shoot, you’re not selling a product, and so you don’t want to distract the viewer from the simplicity of what a standard digital looks like

  3. Avoid fake tans- agencies want to see your real skin color, not what it looks like with a fake spray tan. They never end up looking good and they can be spotty which can make your skin look like you have discoloration.

You will want front full body angle, diagonal full body angle, and profile full body angle. Then the same angles in 3/4s shots and close-up face shots.

Building A Portfolio With Model Digitals

Here are some examples for swimsuit digitals.

Model Digitals - Variations

Sometimes it can be a good idea to have variations in your digitals by having hair tied up and then let down.
